A Mindful Approach to Breaking the Habit
When clients come to me wanting to lose weight or change unhealthy eating or drinking habits, they often say:
“I’ve tried everything, but nothing sticks.”
They’ve tried diets, intermittent fasting, detoxes — yet the cravings always come back. The truth is, your relationship with food isn’t really about willpower — it’s about habit. It’s something your subconscious mind holds onto as a way to cope with stress, seek comfort, or fill emotional gaps. It is a very complex mechanism, which simple “will” is not enough to change. “You can’t help it”, because, indeed, it comes from our subconscious. And our conscious mind can't do much about this way of functioning.
How Hypnotherapy Helps
Hypnotherapy helps you find peace with food — and with yourself. Many people are surprised by how calm and natural the process feels.
During a session, we start by talking through your patterns and beliefs, uncovering the emotional or mental roots behind the habits you want to change. Sometimes weight gain is not directly related to eating too much. Weight gain can be a reaction of the body to protect itself, or to “take up space”. Sometimes everything is complicated. Together, we try to understand these mechanisms. Then you simply lie down while I guide you into a focused, meditative state. In this state you access your subconscious, allowing you to better understand, and if necessary, modify these beliefs which no longer serve you and which it is time to let go.
You remain fully aware, but your subconscious becomes more open to letting go of old associations — like:
“Comfort = chocolate.” “Relax = alcohol.”
We replace those automatic reactions with new, healthier responses — such as taking a walk, breathing mindfully, or simply pausing. Most importantly, we shift the core belief that you need food or alcohol to cope. It’s about making the habit irrelevant.
A Client’s Story: Anna’s Journey
Anna, a 45-year-old client, came to me struggling with bloating and weight gain. She had been advised to stop eating gluten, and although doing so improved her symptoms, she found it almost impossible to stay gluten-free.
She felt social pressure to eat gluten when dining with others, and often found herself reaching for bread and pastries — her comfort foods. Even though she knew they weren’t good for her, resisting them felt exhausting. She would avoid gluten for a few days, but something would eventually trigger her, and she’d give in.
Anna joined our Heal Your Relationship with Food program, which combines hypnotherapy, nutrition, and online support between sessions.
Together, we explored the emotional roots behind her attachment to comfort foods and worked gently to heal those patterns. After just a few sessions, Anna noticed a big shift. She no longer felt tempted by bread or pastries. She didn’t need to “stay away” from them — she simply wasn’t drawn to them anymore.
Her bloating decreased dramatically, she began to lose weight naturally, and most importantly, she felt at peace — with her body, her food, and herself.
Why This Approach Works
Most people believe they have a willpower problem — but it’s rarely about willpower. Unhealthy eating patterns are emotional habits, often rooted in stress or early conditioning.
When we work on that deeper level, change happens naturally. After a few sessions, many clients tell me they simply “don’t think about it anymore.” They also notice side benefits — better sleep, steadier mood, and a renewed sense of self-confidence.
Client Review
“I had already consulted Emilie two years ago for nutritional advice. So it was with confidence that I decided to try hypnosis to work on my feelings of frustration and deprivation around certain foods that I can’t eat due to my illness. The sessions were intense and deeply moving — they often led back to my early childhood, where I discovered things I needed to release. Emilie was patient and compassionate throughout. I’ve made enormous progress and feel far less frustrated with foods that used to tempt me. I’m now much stronger and able to say no without effort. I respect myself much more.”
FAQs
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is completely natural and non-invasive. You stay conscious, relaxed, and in full control at all times. If you don’t want to be hypnotised, you won’t be.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients experience significant change within four to five sessions, depending on how receptive they are to hypnotherapy.
Can hypnotherapy help with other habits?
Absolutely. Hypnotherapy works at the root — the subconscious beliefs that drive our behaviours. Many clients find that positive changes ripple into other areas, such as reducing stress, anxiety, or procrastination.
What does a session feel like?
Most people describe it as deeply peaceful and restorative. Sometimes, old emotions are released, bringing a sense of lightness and freedom afterward. Each session helps you understand yourself more deeply — guiding you toward lasting peace and balance.
